Communication Is King
When It Comes To Offering A Personal Health Assessment For Your Organization, It’s Important To Remember That Communication Is Everything
Personal health assessments make good sense for employers and employees. If done right, employers will get an aggregate report outlining the organization’s overall health status and employees will get a personal report providing a snapshot of their health concerns.
But as is usually the case, the devil is in the details. And in the case of communicating the personal health assessment, the devil comes to visit about eight weeks before the whole process formally gets under way.
And this is where a lot of people run into problems–big time.
If you want to be successful in the launch and execution of personal health assessments within your company, you should start with a communications campaign about eight weeks in advance.
Specifically, your major messages should include the following:
1. We care about you.
2. Your health is the pearl of great price.
3. We are offering you the opportunity to learn more about your personal health status.
4. The process is voluntary and confidential.
5. Here are the details
6. If you take part in the process, we’ll provide you with an incentive.
7. If you have any questions or concerns, here is who you can contact.
Remember, because PHA’s are new, you need to allow your employees plenty of time to kick the tires. The communications campaign serves this purpose. In so doing, you will avoid any potential negative pushback and you’ll put employee’s minds to rest as to what will be done with the data generated from this process.
Ask anyone who has gone through this process and you’ll learn that the hardest year is always the first. But if you do a good job on the communications campaign, everything gets a lot easier.
