How Barry Manilow’s Music Can Create A Healthier America
Piping-In Manilow’s Music Has Driven Out Hooliganism In Australia…Can It Work To Improve Health In The U.S.?
Believe it or not, a city-wide council in Sydney, Australia is considering piping Barry Manilow’s music into a parking lot where teens have been gathering and causing problems. According to a BBC news article, “The music will be played for a six-month trial period at a car park in the suburb of Brighton-le-Sands.”
Council members are convinced that this will be annoying enough to drive trouble-makers to destinations unknown. In fact, Mayor Bill Saravinovski believes, “Daggy music is one way to make the hoons leave an area, because they can’t stand the music.”
The question now becomes, is this something corporate America ought to be considering to drive unhealthy behaviors from the workplace?
It’s not hard to imagine tobacco-users (unhealthy population) dropping lit cigarettes (behavior change) and running from designated smoking areas (health improvement) with Mandy playing over company loud-speakers.
I believe the idea has legs.
